Bedtime in a Box at Baltimore Book Festival

Bedtime in a Box, an initiative of Improving Education, will be at the 2017 Baltimore Book Festival at the Inner Harbor Amphitheatre collecting books and supplies to improve home learning environments.
In a recent study by New York University, researchers found “There is growing evidence for the power of early learning environments on later academic success”. Bedtime in a Box is supporting over 1,000 families this year in Baltimore and needs your help to reach these families!
Bedtime can be the most important time of day. A time for learning, sharing, relaxing and bonding.  We believe all children, no matter where they lay their head, deserve the very best. Bedtime in a Box is improving bedtimes for thousands of children and their families. Because all children deserve a better tomorrow.

American Academy of Pediatrics Foundation, Maryland Chapter Book Donations

The Maryland Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics Foundation will be collecting donations of new children’s books at the 2017 Baltimore Book Festival. In 2014, the American Academy of Pediatrics issued a landmark policy statement promoting literacy as "an essential component of pediatric primary care" for all children.

The policy references the organization Reach Out and Read as an effective intervention to engage parents and prepare children to achieve their potential. The Maryland Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics Foundation serves as the Maryland affiliate of Reach Out and Read, and will distribute these donated books to Reach Out and Read sites in Maryland.

Reach Out and Read doctors and nurse practitioners have the greatest access to families with children in the early years, when it counts, encouraging parents to read aloud daily to their infants, toddlers and preschoolers, as a simple and effective way of fostering nurturing, language-rich family interactions that support brain development and provide a foundation for success. To contact the Maryland Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics Foundation, see or call (410) 878-9702.
